DD Lab

Digital Design Lab - IKK, Katrinebjerg

DD Lab is a facility established at AU Katrinebjerg and affiliated with the Digital Design and Information Science programs at the Department of Communication and Culture, ARTS, Aarhus University.
The purpose of DD Lab is to introduce students to the knowledge, tools, techniques, and technologies that enable them to work with the practical dimensions of digital design, with a focus on physical interaction.

DD Lab’s work is organized into four pillars: The Physical Lab, Teaching, Online Resources, and the Study Environment.

  • The Physical Lab provides the framework for our hardware technologies, CNC machines, and materials. It is a place where students create, work with and complete projects as part of their study programs.
  • Teaching is primarily delivered through workshops on specific technologies and topics. These workshops are typically tied to the courses students attend during their studies.
  • Our Online Resources are hosted across several platforms and include repositories with tutorials, instructions, and examples; presentations of student projects; descriptions of equipment; and more.
  • The Study Environment consists of the spaces students use in their daily activities. These include areas suited for meetings and group work, relaxation, and other forms of support for students’ study routines. The areas are organized around the physical lab and connect to the lecture halls where students receive instruction.
